Somerset College of Art and Technology: Experts Kick Start Enterprising Students
The Internationally Award Winning Somerset College of Art and Technology (SCAT) chose The Splash event for their foundation-degree students as an engaging and practical approach to self-employment, business start-up and freelancing.

Facilitated by Working Knowledge and supported by 12 regional business experts on 15th September 2008, students created some wild and wacky business ideas and then refined them to a stage where they could be launched as real businesses.

Creative students are often thought of as a ‘hard-to-reach’ group for business and employability activities within colleges. However, The Splash was highly successful at engaging these creative students helped by experts recruited by Working Knowledge that represented the very industries that the students aspired to enter.

College tutor Richard Holt attended the day and said,

"A good and well-structured event that ticked all the boxes with regards to understanding business. The event quickly caught the students’ imagination. We saw individuals excel themselves and discover qualities they did not know they had."

Expert James Atherton, Chairman of New Century Design commented “It was excellent to see such energy and enthusiasm from the students and really good fun to participate.”
