Gloucestershire College Plunge
Gloucestershire college is the result of a recent merger between two colleges based 8 miles apart in Gloucester and Cheltenham.
One of the challenges of a merger is creating a sense of cohesion between students and staff across different campuses.
Gloscol therefore opted to pilot The Plunge as a way to bring students from different campuses together, to build friendships through multi-campus collaborative working, while adding significantly to their Employability, enterprise and entrepreneurability skills.
The college chose Wider Key Skills as a funding route and selected 90 Students from arts, media and business to take part in The Plunge and achieve WWO at L2.
Richard Ainger a student on the programme said "I have enjoyed the course very much and have learnt alot from this experience. It made me more confident to speak out more about my ideas and work"
10 local business people were invited to take part in the programme with the aim of engaging local employers and showcasing the talents of Gloucester College students. The business people - acting as 'experts' on the last day - certainly went away impressed.
Marcus Robinson, Customer & Market Insight Manager at Lloyds TSB commented "A fabulous rewarding experience working with the business leaders of the future. I've learnt as much as I've shared."
Staff were also impressed by the programme. Clare Ward remarked "As we mixed the students up, they were a bit anxious and negative at the start of day 1. This eased by Day 2 and students relaxed and focused more on the tasks. I would recommend the experience for both students and also to enhance staff teaching activities "
