Ride The Wave is a comprehensive and engaging programme of activities and events that delivers Short Course Qualifications rapidly and with high success rates. It boosts the motivation and aspiration of students at ALL levels (including NEET) while illustrating to the business community how your college can offer them real benefits.
Why is this relevant to my students?
The events are designed to raise aspiration, build confidence and teach business process and language and are relevant to ALL curriculum areas.
Essentially students gain an EDGE in the increasingly competitive job market or the aspiration to progress to higher levels of education.
Students that take part in their events tend to be more motivated, more prepared for interview and are more likely to complete courses.
Indeed some colleges have reported dramatic improvements in RETENTION rates as a consequence of students engaging in the Ride the Wave Programme.
Why Working Knowledge?
Working Knowledge now partner with 76 UK Universities and 27 Colleges, have 5 years experience and were WINNERS of the UK Skills National Training Award in 2008.
They facilitate and manage events for YOU, recruit significant numbers of EMPLOYERS to support the events and where appropriate deliver ALL the evidence required for QUALIFICATIONS.
Recruiting Employers?
We recruit employers to support the events. Over 1500 have taken part across the country and ALL volunteer to take part again.
Why are these employers important to me?
The events act as a ‘shop window’ on the TALENT available within your college and also raise your college PROFILE as a key supporter offering real benefits to business in the region.
You can expect to:
1. Win EMPLOYER RESPONSIVE BUSINESS,
2. Secure WORK PLACEMENTS and MENTORING
3. Benefit from experts coming in to the classroom to add context to core curriculum studies.
We have had great success acting for colleges that have specific businesses they wish to build relationships with or sectors they want to target; we will CALL your targets for you and encourage them to come along.
What Qualifications can be delivered?
Short course qualifications including Enterprise skills, Work skills, Employability skills, Wider Key Skills, Key Skills, etc.
But what if I do not have any room in the SLN?
For Level I and Foundation Learners Working Knowledge could deliver a 30-36GLH qualification in one day to count against the 40 notional PSD hours.
For Level 2 and 3, they could potentially deliver some elements of core curricula particularly on shared units or we could look to project funds including Aimhigher.
When would I run this?
1. In induction with 16-19 FT students at all levels as an ice breaker and to deliver a VSC Qualification in the first 6 weeks to help protect your SLN.
2. After AS exams especially connected to supporting UCAS applications (also relevant to BTEC considering progression to HE).
3. Later in the year to maximise the SLN of students.
4. Throughout the year for Adults (Response to Redundancy) and NEETs to increase your student numbers.
