Delivering on the Challenge of Apprenticeships
With greater focus from Government on the provision and delivery of apprenticeships for students, it has become clear that colleges often face challenges in engaging sufficient employers to meet the increasing demand from students to take them up.
By running a VSC from Working Knowledge we believe we can assist colleges with addressing these challenges while engaging students and strengthening employer relations.
Many colleges we work with have said they believe that apprenticeships will be one of the few funding areas that will not be capped in 2010/2011 so there is an opportunity to make a significant impact in this area in the coming year.
One of the problems they encounter is encouraging smaller businesses, especially in the newer apprenticeship areas of Arts, Media and Publishing or Information and Communication Technology to engage with the programme and understand the value the students can bring.
At Working Knowledge we specialise in bringing employers from all businesses, (but especially smaller ones) into college environments to work with student s on VSCs which results in those employers seeing students in a new light, realising that the college is a resource that they hadn’t previously considered for new staff.
What we also often find is that the smaller employer may need an apprentice that can provide help in areas where they might be weak - many small creative businesses need administrative help for instance – so the approach to filling apprenticeships may not need to be so rigid.
If you are interested in finding out more about how a VSC could help you move forward faster with your apprenticeship programme then please contact us by phone on 0870 7201071 or by email at james.lott@twkg.net
