City of Bristol College Plunge into Work Skills Qualifications
The ideal way to deliver Work Skills Qualifications is to engage employers in the process. And there is no better way to engage employers than using a large event programme like THE PLUNGE to kick-start a relationship with a new employer.

47 Bristol employers spent a day supporting 360 L3 Vocational Students in late September. The students were 1st years at City of Bristol College studying IT, Travel and Business.

The employers represented both big (LLoyds TSB, Clifton Asset Management) and small local businesses keen to engage the 16-19 age-group.

“An inspiring and extremely rewarding day – a priviledge to be invited. Great to share ideas and see the development of our entrepreneurs of the future.” Simon Thurston, Madd Maxx Marketing

Keith Elliot, Principal and Chief Executive, said “We have worked with Working Knowledge for 2 years now and once again they really delivered a great event for us. I was very impressed with the level of engagement of both the Students and Employers. The Plunge represents a fabulous learning opportunity.”
Students gathered evidence during the 3-day event to achieve the Edexcel Workskills Qualification.

Judy Stradling, Vice Principal, said “I think it has been an absolutely fabulous event. To deliver a short course qualification in such an engaging and exciting way can have profound impact on both attainment and retention of our students.”

Here’s what some of the students from City of Bristol College thought about the event;

“I thought this was a good experience. I have learnt a lot about myself. I’m more confident than I thought I was. I have gained alot of skills.” Sarah

“I really enjoyed the plunge. I think it is a really good event for all the students.” Marta

“It gave me some great experience as it relates to my business course.” Hannah

“It was fun, I really enjoyed the past three days and I have learnt a lot from this experience. I met new people and the experts were very helpful.” Marianna

The local Bristol Employers left with a very positive view of the college and the quality of teaching the students enjoy;

“It’s great to see kids getting involved and showing such enthusiasm.” Amanda Doyle, Amanda Doyle Services

“The Plunge is a fantastic way to see students using their skills in a real world setting.” Vanessa King, True Digital

“I’ve definitely met a few leaders of the future.” Marcus Lorenzo, Atticus Partnership

“A thought provoking and very worthwhile day for both myself and the students.” Vikki Little, Feisty Consultancy
